ASOS has arrived...

To my doorstep, that is. My dresses from ASOS have finally arrived, and right on schedule! Will post pictures up for my review soon.

First Sex and the City post... Part 1

I can't believe it took me this long to have a Sex and the City post... I even had a Gossip Girl post first! *shakes head in disappointment*

Sex and the City opened my eyes to fashion and I think it's quite safe for me to say that this applies to a lot of girls out there as well. Of course, of all the characters in the series, Carrie Bradshaw's style was my favourite. She had varied looks throughout the series and you can actually see her sense of fashion and style evolve with every season, if not episode. I think what was so special about her was that she was a trendsetter as opposed to a fashion victim. Having said that, I must admit that she had almost as many 'misses' compared to 'hits'. But then again, I think I've had more 'misses' than 'hits' in my life... That's how we grow, no?

So without further ado... My list (without any particular order) of Carrie's most memorable looks from the Sex and the City series... (I'll do the movies in a separate post)

Vintage Carrie

This vintage dress apparently cost USD9. I love the way it looks like she just threw on the belt just before walking out her door. And her trademark carefree hair complements her look perfectly!
 Colourful Carrie

Not many people would opt for the multi-coloured skirt, let alone pair it with a bright red jacket. But she just makes it work! I love the monochrome shoes!

Boy vs. Girl Carrie

A look I'd love to try to pull off...

 Masculine Carrie

If only I could pull off the look on the left for work... Imagine the looks I'd get turning up to work in short pants... If only more people get fashion!
Swee yet Sexy Carrie

I distrinctly remember falling in love with this dress when it made its 'short' debut. I say 'short' cause unfortunately, she fell into the water with the dress on!

Dior Carrie

I'm sure no Sex and the City follower could forget this dress and Carrie's body in it. She wore this dress again in the first movie (this pic might be from the movie instead of the series) and the audience's intake of breath and subsequent applause in the cinema proved me right. She made this skimpy dress look sexy instead of slutty.

Jackie O Carrie

She definitely pulled of the Jackie O look.

Trendsetter Carrie

Everyone used to think that pearls are only for our grandmothers. Well, Carrie sure proved them wrong (me included). She just looks so chic with the multi-layered pearl necklace which she sets off by wearing her hair up in a high bun. Wearing her hair down would have just made the look messy.

Simple Carrie

When I saw Carrie in this vintage white blazer and vintage mickey mouse t-shirt, I was just blown away. Such a simple outfit yet extremely chic. I bought myself a tailored blazer the very next day!

Corsage Carrie

With Carrie, bigger is always better... Loved her corsage-phase!

Paris Carrie

I think Carrie (or should I saw Patricia Fields) really outdid herself with the two-part series finale. The clothes were just more beautiful and more chic than ever...

Loving the monochrome look here... I especially love her hat.

The big white cuffs on the coat, the flower brooch, the Minnie Mouse-inspired dress peeking out, the grogeous white stilettos... It's just Wow...

This Versace dress just left me speechless...

So that's Part 1 of my Sex and the City post...

Part 2 will document her 'misses'...

ASOS.com, anyone?

I've known about ASOS for quite some time now (like who doesn't, right)... But I've never actually ventured into the website before until sometime this year... I know, I'm sooo (in the words of Fergie) 2000 and late. I was looking for something to wear for a friend's wedding and cause I was so busy at work I didn't even have the time to go shopping, I decided to try out online shopping. That was when the frenzy began...

During my online window shopping frenzy, I discovered that ASOS actually has plenty of beautiful dresses at affordable prices. So when I found out recently that they were offering free shipping this month (that's right people, free shipping worldwide!), it didn't take me long to type in http://www.asos.com/ hehehe....

I settled on 2 dresses for me to wear for Xmas and New Years...

Darling Dress Mini 60s Shift with Lace Applique

I originally wanted this dress in navy but they ran out of my size so I settled for the cream instead, which I think is almost as pretty... It's also perfect cause I don't actually own any cream/white dresses... they're not forgiving ok! I love the lace applique detail on the sleeves and down the middle of the dress...

ASOS Pleated Chiffon Sleeve Shift Dress
Since I didn't get the other dress in navy, I decided to go for this ASOS dress.
I know they're both the same styles but I'm kindda into long sleeve shift dresses at the mo... don't ask why.. maybe it's cause I'm feeling fat... go figure.
My dresses are expected to arrive within 9 days (excluding weekends and bank holidays) from the date of shipping, which was last week. I seriously hope it makes it in time for Xmas!
Will post pictures up soon once I get them!
Now I just have to figure out what shoes do I wear them with....

First Movie Review: The Social Network

Ever since I watched the trailer for The Social Network (awesome background music), I knew I had to watch it when it comes out over here. And I finally did...

Genre: Film
Subject Matter: The Social Network

The movie certainly lived up to my expectations. Don't get me wrong though, it's not like the best movie of all time (Clueless, hello??? I'm kidding... Well, kindda) but it was definitely entertaining. The movie told the "true" story of how Facebook was created by these undergrads in Harvard (in their dorm room, I might add... the only thing I ever created in my dorm room was a mess!) and how it did that was it centered mainly on the 2 lawsuits brought against Mark Zuckerberg by firstly, his best friend, Eduardo Sevarin and secondly, fellow Harvard students, the Winklevoss twins (hellloooo, Armie Hammer) and Divya Narendra (is it just me or did the guy in the movie look nothing like an indian dude???).

The movie is actually based on the non-fiction book The Accidental Billionaires by Ben Mezrich. So, there's actually a lot of dialogue in it, which some people might not enjoy. How accurate the facts are is arguable as neither Mark Zuckerberg nor any of the Facebook staff or employee were involved in its research. Though according to Wikipedia, the book was based partly on Eduardo Sevarin's input.

The movie is rather fast-paced and the chain of events tend to go back and forth. I thought the dialogue was clever and Mark Zuckerberg's sarcasm made it humorous at times. Mark Zuckerberg was potrayed as arrogant but still lovable, cause at the end of the day, he had the goods to back it up. Given that Eduardo Sevarin seemed to be the only one who had a say in the story, I was surprised that he was made to look like the party-pooper in the film.

Oh, Justin Timberlake was in the movie as well. He played Napster co-founder, Sean Parker. Before the movie came out over here, I read reviews about how awesome Justin was in the movie and that there was already Oscar-buzz for him. After watching the movie, I am seriously wondering who in the world thought he deserved an Oscar?!?!?! He wasn't bad but c'mon, there was no Oscar-worthy performance coming from him, that's for sure. People are crazy sometimes, I think.

Jesse Eisenberg played Mark Zuckerberg in the film... He looks like Mark, no?

Seriously hot!!!
Pictures taken from Google images.

Verdict: Must-watch!

BTW: Rooney Mara was also in the movie... She's set to star in the upcoming The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo based on the same titled book by the late Swedish author and journalist, Steig Larsson. Apparently, she beat more well-known and established actresses (i.e. Natalie Portman and Ellen Page) for the role. Another movie I'm looking forward to...

Blair Wannabe

Ever since Gossip Girl appeared on our TV/Computer screens 4 years ago, girls around the world came together to "Ooooh" and "Aaahhh" at Serena's and Blair's outfits. It was a revival of our fashion fix after the end of Sex and the City *reminiscing Sex and the City days...*

Ok I'm back. Anyhoo, it was Blair Waldorf who single-handedly brought headbands back into the fashion world. Now, you cannot step foot into a shop without seeing headbands. An online shop is no exception :)

Genre: Fashion
Subject Matter: (1) Blair Headband from Sereni and Shentel
                            (2) O'deas Headband from Alainn

Headbands purchased from thepoplook.com

Blair Headband from Sereni and Shentel

Sereni and Shentel is a brand of headbands developed by the duo Sereni and Shentel (of course) who are based in East Malaysia. Their collection of headbands are varied though you can still see that they have managed to retain their identity throughout the collection.

I chose the Navy because I thought it'd be easier to match

The day after I got this I wore it to work with a dark emerald cardigan cause I thought the colours went really well together

It even came with its own bag and a care card

I am so pleased I chose this headband. It is dressy without being too fancy making it quite versatile for me to wear it to work or a night out on the town (though I hardly go out on the town anymore hehe).

I'm thinking of getting another Blair but I can't decide whether I should get it in Emerald or Turqoise. Or I might get the Ice Ice Baby. We shall see :)

O'deas Headband from Alainn

I chose Red firstly because it is the nicest colour it has for this particular style of headband and secondly because I don't have any red headbands

It turned out to be a brighter red than the darker red the pictures potrayed on the website but it still looks pretty good

I love the layering of the ribbons. It makes it look so delicate.

This headband is a bit on the fancy side so I definitely can't wear it to work. I'm thinking of wearing it out tomorrow night but I'm still trying to figure out an outfit to go with it. Does anyone else plan an outfit around a headband or is it just me?

Verdict: Lovin' it!!!!

Coming up next...

My next review will be on the Sereni & Shentel and Alainn Headbands I bought from thepoplook.com (which is a great local online shop), which arrived yesterday. Woot woot!

Watch out for that!

My First Beauty Review!

Deciding on my 2nd review evidently did not take as long as my 1st... I've decided to do a review on one of my favourite beauty products. Please bear in mind and I wish to repeat that I'm no expert at the stuffs I review on this blog... unless its a legal document and even then, I would hardly call myself an expert :)

Genre: Beauty
Subject matter: Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencil

As you can see I have quite a few hehe. I kindda got tired of wearing black liner all the time, so when I saw these pencils at Sephora in Paris, I thought it'd be a great alternative. Also, eyeshadow + humid KL weather + my oilly skin = no-go.

I always get very suspicious of beauty products which claim that they're long-lasting. This one goes as far as claiming it lasts 24/7! So I wasn't terribly disappointed when the colour faded slightly after 8 hours of wear because to me, it faired better than I expected. However, when paired with Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Primer Potion (which works wonders, btw), the colour does stay put till the end of the day.

Another thing I really liked about the pencils are that it glides on your eyelids very easily. So you can  spend less than a minute every morning putting them on, which is great for people like me who are constantly late for work :)

The pencils come in a variety of colours. I tend to go more for the browns and greens (I heard that green is supposed to make brown eyes pop!). You can check them out at Sephora. I don't think you can get Urban Decay here in KL, though you can watch out for it once Sephora opens up in KL (the Sephora in Singapore carries it).

My favourite colours are:

1. Rockstar

This pencil is a dark purple colour. It looks really pretty on the eyes

2. Stash

This is a greenish-gold colour and it's simply super! Really makes the eyes pop

3. Baked

This is my favourite goldish-brownish pencil of the lot

Verdict: The colours are great and the pencils glide on really well. Though I suggest to layer on Urban Decay's Eye Primer as a base to make it last.

My First Review!

When my boyfriend asked me what my first review post will be about, I joked and said "Maybe I'll do a review on you Haha"! I told my friends that and the girls thought it was a great idea and I should actually set up a blog where people can 'review' their boyfriends. The idea was extremely tempting though seeing their boyfriends' faces, I quickly dismissed it from my mind. Maybe some other day :)

As expected and as you can probably tell from the lapse of time between my first post and this one, it took me awhile to figure out what should be the subject of my very first review. Obviously, I have finally decided.

So here goes my first non-expert review...

Genre: Fashion
Subject Matter: (1) Korean Fashion Station - an online shop
                           (2) Cherry Koko - Korean online women's clothes shop

Review

About a month ago, I came across this online shop reviews blog and this one particular website caught my eye... Korean Fashion Station! It's this website that has links to about 10-15 Korean online shops. How it works is that, you choose the items that you like (which ranges from tops, pants, skirts, coats, shoes, bags and jewellery) and email the relevant links to Korean Fashion Station ("KFS"). KFS then gets it agent in Korea to order all those items which will then be shipped over to you. Although KFS is a Malaysian website, it ships worldwide. Please note that agent's fees of 10% per item will be charged along with shipping costs.

KFS really opened my eyes to the fashion scene in Korea. I didn't realise how much of their fashion is so wearable! I guess I have always associated Korea with Japan (I do apologise! It's like associating Malaysia with Indonesia, or Singapore!!!) and let's face it, the fashion in Japan is a bit too out-there for me.

Some of the Korean online shops have extremely chic clothes that can translate from workwear to casual wear which is awesome! Plus, the way they put the outfits together are rather inspiring. Oh and most importantly, it is completely affordable. A nice blouse or skirt ranges from RM50 - RM100.

Anyhoo, I decided to place an order for a few items from Cherry Koko. The clothes were just too beautiful for me to resist. I placed my order with KFS (who were super helpful, btw) last Monday and my package arrived today! Woot Woot!

Check them out...

1. Blouse

You can see that it came in a protective plastic so that crumpling is minimised.

I'm loving slouchy tops right now so this blouse is just spot-on. I can wear it to work or during the weekends, tucked in my skinnies and accessorised with a belt :)

 2. Coat

It was slightly crumpled but nothing a steamer can't handle :)

It even came with its own Cherry Koko hanger

3. Skirt

This really doesn't do the skirt justice...

So I decided to take a picture of me wearing it so you can see the cutting of the skirt... Really pretty :)
So yes, I am absolutely ecstatic about my new purchases! Am definitely buying more from KFS now that I can see the quality of the clothes is pretty damn good. To me, it definitely trumps the quality of the clothes you get from most of the bangsar boutiques.

Verdict: A big thumbs up to KFS for the excellent service and Cherry Koko for the beautiful quality clothes!!!
